Unlike many of the other Persian rug-weaving cities, Qum only established itself a centre of production in the early 20th Century, though its carpets quickly established a reputation for the high-quality of the wool, often Merino, from which they are made, and the elegance and precision of their designs – this piece is certainly no exception: the subtlety of the dyes, the grade of the weaving, and the skill of its makers are all visible in every detail.

This is an especially unique example, as it incorporates characteristic designs of the Art Nouveau movement, which emphasized organic forms, flowing lines, and nature-inspired motifs in architecture, furniture, and the applied arts. It also features a rare, understated palette, with tones of ivory, caramel, and chocolate brown. Given how unique this piece is, with its one-of-a-kind design, rather than the traditional central medallion, we believe this would have been specially comissioned for the European market or someone of title.

In very good original condition for everyday use, still retaining its original edges and borders on all sides.
