Exquisite c. 1900 Veramin Carpet

Origin: Persia
Circa: 1900s
Size: 5.45 x 3.66 metres17'10 x 12' feet

This elegant and refined c. 1900 Veramin Carpet has a remarkably tight weave that engenders the clarity of the crisp drawing.  The muted blue field provides a great contrast to the array of harmonious colours including shades of green, terracotta, light blue and ivory, and is framed by a tasteful border. It boasts a wonderfully lustrous wool – either Merino or something of similar quality.

The charming pomegranate design is derived from early Azerbaijan rugs of the 18th century and symbolises prosperity, fertility and longevity.

Antique Veramin carpets of Central Persia are recognized as exceptional workshop weavings for their quality crisp drawings and their variety of vegetable-dyed colours. They are widely appreciated for their creative drawings in comparison to rugs from neighbouring regions.

In very good to excellent condition for everyday use, still retaining its original outer borders on all sides.

A timeless beauty and a great addition to a variety of interior styles.  A rarity in this large format.
