Contemporary Bakshayish Carpet – Hand Woven in Iran
Contemporary Bakshayish Carpet – Hand Woven in Iran
£ 9,000
Early Bakshayish pieces, woven in Persia’s mountainous Northwest, are the close relatives of Serapi-Heriz carpets, though are known for being more expressive and more spontaneous than their Heriz cousins and, as a result, are widely sought after among collectors and designers alike.
This contemporary example represents a high-grade handwoven modern twist on the classical designs of high-end Bakshayish carpets of the 19th Century. It employs a well-balanced, allover stamped design in the central field, with muted vegetable-dyed tones set over a duck-egg blue ground, with playful terracotta accents – a restrained palette, well suited to this carpet’s spacious, minimalist feel, added to by the uniformity of colour across the field and the surrounding decorative border.
A handsome, elegant carpet, to suit a wide variety of interior styles.
