Impressive Nain Carpet with Silk Highlights

Origin: Persia
Circa: 2nd Half 20th Century
Size: 7.65 x 5.05 metres25'1 x 16'5 feet
Reference number: 55102

Despite only beginning its life as a rug-weaving centre in the early 20th Century, Nain, a region of Central Iran, quickly earned a reputation for producing magnificent, hand-made rugs, renowned for the creativity and clarity of their designs, inspired by earlier classical pieces, and the quality of their weaves.

This example features a rare green colour field, overlaid with scrolling floral motifs, in tones of blue, ivory, and dark cherry red, framed by a wide border. Unlike in more traditional pieces, the artist of this carpet has opted for a balanced overall composition, rather than the conventional central medallion pattern, which lends the piece a more elegant feel.

An exceptional Classical piece, rare in this large format and preserved in very good condition, which would make a fine addition to any interior.
