Fine Signed Kashan Carpet

£ 7,800

Origin: Persia
Circa: 1959
Size: 3.80 x 3.18 metres12'5 x 10'5 feet
Reference number: 54306

Masterfully worked on an ivory colour ground and woven in lustrous high-quality wool.

This signed 1959 Kashan carpet features a series of subtle scrolling floral motifs, in hues of duck-egg blue, with ochre accents.

Dated to the Mid-20th Century, this piece has a distinctly modern character, employing an open, free-field design, the border blending with the central field, departing from the more intricate Classical layout.

This piece bears the signature of one of the workshops of the city of Kashan, among the best-known and highly ranked Persian rug-weaving centers. Rising to prominence in the 16th Century, under the Safavid Dynasty, these workshops earned a reputation for producing many of the most highly sought-after rugs of the Classical period and continued their work into the early 20th Century.

Preserved in very good to excellent condition, the fringes and borders all fully retained, this carpet represents a stunning example of its type, and would make a tasteful addition to any setting.
