A distinguished example of Anglo-Persian collaboration from the late 19th century. Commissioned by the Manchester-based firm Ziegler & Co., these carpets were crafted in Sultanabad (modern-day Arak) to cater to Western tastes, blending traditional Persian motifs with European design sensibilities. The result was a series of rugs characterized by grand scale patterns, subtle color palettes, and exceptional craftsmanship, making them highly sought after in both historical and contemporary interiors

This particular piece features a harmonious all-over design with a light terracotta field complemented by an array of vegetable dyes, including soft greens, ivory, light blue, and faded yellow. The muted grey-blue border frames the composition, enhancing its visual appeal. The large-scale floral motifs and balanced overall drawing exemplify the quiet formality and understated elegance that Ziegler Mahal carpets are renowned for.

The carpet is in very good practical condition for everyday use. It retains its original plain borders on all sides, and the natural dyes have aged gracefully, developing a characterful patina over time.
