Mid 20th Century Kashan Rug
Mid 20th Century Kashan Rug
£ 3,000
The city of Kashan, among the best-known and highly-ranked Persian rug-weaving centres, first rose to prominence in the 16th Century, under the Safavid Dynasty. These workshops earned a reputation for creating many of the most highly sought-after rugs of the Classical period and continued their work into the early 20th Century.
The palette is poised and inviting, composed of soft, harmonious tones over an ivory ground, worked into a refined floral design that flows effortlessly across the field. Each motif is articulated with control and delicacy, balanced by wide, elegantly drawn borders that frame the composition without overwhelming it. The effect is both luxurious and serene, offering a timeless feel that settles naturally into both traditional and contemporary interiors.
In very good practical condition for everyday use, the rug retains its original borders and shows a healthy, even pile throughout.
The natural dyes have matured beautifully, acquiring a gentle patina that enriches the surface without dulling its clarity. This is a piece of quiet sophistication—its surprisingly modern quality, fine craftsmanship, and graceful proportions making it an enduring and versatile choice for any well-considered space.
