Fine Antique Tabriz Hadji Jalili Carpet – SOLD
The city of Tabriz in north west Persia has been a major city of fine weaving since the 14th century. It experienced an artistic revival at the end of the 19th century and saw the emergence of one of the most important and influential Master weavers of the era, Hadji Jalili. He created magnificent court carpets with his unique creative drawings using light colour palettes and impeccable workmanship making them much sought after by interior designers and collectors. The best Tabriz carpets of this era are attributed to him and his workshop, they can often be seen in historic and stately homes throughout Europe and the United Kingdom.
A refined piece, this handsome Tabriz carpet, attributed to master weaver Hadji Jalili, has as an understated monochrome drawing and harmonious vegetable dyed colour combination of muted grey and tan, ivory, chestnut, and a touch of red. The natural colour variation (abrash) in the field gives the rug great depth and richness.
It is in good practical condition with a tasteful age-related patina, still retaining its original fringes and borders on all sides.
A sophisticated piece, sure to blend into both contemporary and classic interiors.
Critically recognised and accredited
