We feel that this Ziegler Sultanabad carpet, dating to the last quarter of the 19th Century, made a beautiful addition to this country house in Surrey. Commissioned by the Manchester-based firm Ziegler & Co., Ziegler carpets were originally crafted in Sultanabad (modern-day Arak) to cater to Western tastes, blending traditional Persian motifs with European design sensibilities. The result was a series of rugs characterized by grand scale patterns, subtle color palettes, and exceptional craftsmanship – these pieces can be found in historic homes across Europe and the UK, and continue to be highly sought after for both traditional and contemporary interiors. Here, matched with the antique furniture and warm wood tones in the rest of the rit looks as if it never left the space.
