Originating from the renowned weaving city of Tabriz in Northwest Persia, this antique carpet reflects the region’s centuries-old reputation for producing some of the finest rugs in the Persian tradition. Tabriz weavings have long been celebrated for their finely knotted structures, balanced compositions and refined drawing, and this example offers a particularly elegant interpretation of Classical Persian design influences, particularly those of the sought after 17th Century Safavid carpets.

Woven circa 1920s, the carpet displays an expressive all-over composition of scrolling botanical motifs, arranged with an unusual sense of movement and openness. The spacious drawing and gently varied detailing create a creative, almost painterly quality across the field, set against a warm terracotta ground. A beautifully mellow palette of naturally aged vegetable dyes includes soft cornflower blue, muted bronze, sage green and touches of turquoise, all enclosed within a rare ivory border of generous proportions.

Preserved in very good condition for everyday use, the carpet retains its outer borders and displays the attractive patina and gentle abrash that comes with age.
