Early Feraghan carpets were popular during the 19th century, woven in the same region as the equally sought-after Ziegler Mahal carpets.  These pieces are often seen in grand houses in Europe and the UK, known for their quiet formality, soft wool and harmonious colours. Feraghan carpets are especially unique in that they manage to harmonise both tribal and formal elements of rug design, and therefore have the ability to suit a wide variety of interior styles.

This early Feraghan carpet features a well balanced, all-over Herati-style design, in tones of ivory and faded coral and saffron, well complimented by the muted blue field, framed by a decorative border of good proportions – an understated, earthy colour scheme, all in organic, vegetable dyes.

This antique Feraghan long rug has been retained in very good practical condition for everyday use. Its vegetable dyes have taken on a wonderful patina with age.

A very handsome early weaving, which, in the right setting, would look as if it never left the house.
