Early Heriz carpets from Northwest Persia are in a class of their own.  Prized for their geometric designs, fine durable construction and creative use of vegetable-dyed colours, they make ideal long-lasting rugs, and have always stood out for their striking tribal motifs. In our experience, Heriz carpets prove to be among the most versatile decorative weavings, with the ability to unite both modern and traditional design elements in a room.

This example, dating to c. 1900, employs an open, all-over composition, rather than the conventional central medallion, lending the work an expressive, spontaneous quality.  The bold, graphic motifs in its design are worked in tones including cornflower blue, bottle green, ochre and ivory, over a soft terracotta field, and framed by a wide border in muted charcoal – all in organic vegetable dyes.

Retained in very good condition for everyday use, with its borders preserved on all sides and a mellow age related patina to its colours.

A wonderful village weaving, which would lend character and warmth to any space.
