Early Heriz carpets from north-west Persia are in a class of their own. This handsome early 20th Century example showcases a simplified, charmingly naive graphic pattern, in earthy vegetable-dyed tones of tan and sky blue, over a soft terracotta field. A bold, striking composition, especially in relation to this piece’s narrow format.

Retained in very good practical condition for everyday use, with its decorative outer borders retained on all sides. It’s organic dyes have taken on a fine patina with age.
