Antique Karabagh Long Rug

Origin: Caucasus
Circa: 1890s
Size: 5.72 x 2.14 metres18'8 x 7'1 feet
Reference number: A25854

Antique Karabagh rugs are much sought after by collectors and designers as they boast some of the oldest and most varied designs of all Caucasian weavings, and represent perhaps the finest in quality and artistry amongst pieces from this region – these became widely popular in the West toward the end of the 19th Century, and can be spotted in many grand historic homes around the UK and Europe.

This striking 19th Century example showcases a unique geometric drawing in an earthy palette of ivory, salmon-pink, grey, olive green and hazelnut, in natural vegetable dyes atop a field of near-black charcoal grey, offering depth and character to the overall composition.

Retained in very good practical condition for everyday use, still preserving its original borders and fringes on all sides.

A sophisticated example to compliment a variety of spaces.
