Origin: Europe
Circa: 1900
Size: 2.88 x 1.52 metres9'5 x 5' feet

This characterful European rug, dating to the turn of the last Century, has borrowed design elements characteristic of earlier 17th & 18th Century Anatolian Oushak carpets, rendering them in simplified geometric motifs, creating an altogether unique and singular composition which stands apart from other works of its place and period.

An attractive example of European weaving, featuring a bold, graphic drawing and deep richness of colour, with an intense terracotta red field accented with greens, muted gold, and a sophisticated grey-purple around the central motif; this exquisite design marries the aesthetic sensibilities of turn-of-the-century Europe with the forms and patterns of the East, making for a one-of-a-kind work.

This piece has been retained in very good practical condition for everyday use.

An eye-catching rug, sure to add warmth and character to a variety of settings.
