Commissioned by the Manchester-based firm Ziegler & Co., these carpets were crafted in Sultanabad (modern-day Arak) to cater to Western tastes, blending traditional Persian motifs with European design sensibilities. The result was a series of rugs characterized by grand-scale patterns, subtle color palettes, and exceptional craftsmanship, making them highly sought after in both historical and contemporary interiors.

This handsome Ziegler carpet, made in the last quarter of the 20th Century, boasts a rare sea-green colour field, serving as a wonderful backdrop to the large-scale floral motifs in the drawing, framed by a wide, muted saffron border. The fresh colours are all vegetable-dyed colours with handspun wool, with a mild age-related patina.
