This exquisite example, dating to the turn of the last Century, boasts a highly creative drawing with an overall pattern rather than the standard central medallion motif, with each panel containing different symbols derived from ancient Persia. The subtle charcoal-grey ground, uncommon for pieces of its type, provides a wonderful contrast to these motifs, all rendered in gracefully aged vegetable-dyed wools in an earthy and understated palette and framed by a wide terracotta border of great proportions.
