British & Irish Arts and Crafts weavings emerged in the late 19th century as part of the broader Arts and Crafts Movement. Influenced by both Western designs from the medieval and Renaissance periods along with elements from Eastern weavings, artisans such as William Morris focused on creating handwoven carpets with intricate patterns and natural motifs. Often woven by hand using natural wools, these works were designed for both functionality and for their decorative quality, celebrating the beauty of handmade work in an era of rapid industrialization.

This contemporary example, handwoven woven in lustrous wool, draws from the design characteristics of Arts & Crafts pioneers Gavin Morton and Charles Voysey, with scrolling motifs repeated across a soft sky blue field in fresh vegetable dyed tones of muted bronze, ochre red and sage green – an open, well balanced design, which gives the composition an pleasantly spacious feeling, especially in relation to its narrow format.

In excellent condition for everyday use, with an attractive palette and all-over design, this runner would make a welcome addition to a variety of spaces.
