Fine c. 1930s Qum Rug
Fine c. 1930s Qum Rug
£ 3,300
Rug weaving in the city of Qum only started at the beginning of the 20th century and the city quickly established itself as a centre for exceptional fine weavings. Qum is known for their unique decorative carpets with classically precise drawings and luxurious wool, often merino, setting it apart from other Persian weaving centres.
This exquisite Qum carpet with its delicate attractive colour tones of ivory, sky blue, pinky-red and green has a unique design in comparison to other examples of its type. Its creative design is composed of repeats of the evergreen cyrpess tree forms across the field, from earlier rugs of the 17th century – an ancient Zoroastrian symbol, associated with everlasting life. The density of its weave lends great clarity to its crisp drawing, and the natural vegetable dyed colours have aged nicely – the wool is of a high grade, possibly merino of a similar quality.
In very good condition still retaining its original borders and short fringes on all sides.
A charming accent rug, to suit a variety of settings.
Critically recognised and accredited
