Fine Vintage Aubusson of Savonnerie Design
Fine Vintage Aubusson of Savonnerie Design
The town of Aubusson has long since been famous for the high quality of its textiles, its reputation stretching back as far as the 14th Century, as a centre of Medieval tapestry weaving. In the 17th Century, its workshops were given ‘Royal Appointment’ status, commissioned to produce elaborate carpets for the French Court, well-known for their tight weaves and lustrous wool.
Styled in the Aubusson tradition, this elegant example has characteristics of French Savonnerie carpets of the 18th Century, featuring an musted chestnut field with a creative all-over design woven in naturally dyed colours; accents of ivory and muted coral in its in creatively repeated floral motifs, framed by a sage green border of great proportions.
In excellent condition for everyday use.
A sophisticated piece fit for any tasteful interior.
Critically recognised and accredited
