Striking Voysey Arts & Crafts Carpet

£ 5,200

British & Irish Arts and Crafts carpet weaving emerged in the late 19th century as part of the broader Arts and Crafts Movement. Influenced by both Western designs from the medieval and Renaissance periods along with elements from Eastern weavings, artisans such as William Morris focused on creating handwoven carpets with intricate patterns and natural motifs. Often woven by hand using natural wools, these works were designed for both functionality and for their decorative quality, celebrating the beauty of handmade work in an era of rapid industrialization.

This contemporary example, creatively woven in lustrous wool, draws from the design characteristics of Arts & Crafts pioneers Gavin Morton and Charles Voysey. It features an unusually simple, open composition, with a wide central field of sky blue, to which a subtle abrash (ie. variation in tone) lends great character and depth, serving as a charming backdrop to an array of natural dyed tones, including muted coral and tan, with a plain sage green border.

A stylish example with the versatility to complement a variety of settings.
