Unusual c. 1880 Lori Runner
Unusual c. 1880 Lori Runner
Antique Lori carpets were traditionally woven by nomadic tribes in southern Persia, embodying a rich heritage of craftsmanship and tribal artistry. Highly prized for their individuality and exceptional quality, these distinguished weavings are celebrated for their expressive simplicity, distinctive geometric designs and captivating colour combinations.
This lovely early Lori runner employs an unusually open, all-over grand-scale designs repeated across its rare ivory field with a wonderful feeling of spontaneity. The colour palette includes earthy tones of ochre red, olive green, tan and chestnut, with touches of duck egg blue, with a lovely graphic naivety to the drawing.
Retained in very good condition for everyday use, the vegetable dyed colours of this 19th Century Lori runner have taken on a charming patina with age. Remarkably, the outer borders and unopened kilim fringes are fully retained on all sides, a rare feature for a piece of this age.
A creative example with a unique tribal charm, which would make a great addition to any interior.
