Vintage Aubusson Carpet – RESERVED
The town of Aubusson has long since been famous for the high quality of its textiles, its reputation stretching back as far as the 14th Century, as a centre of Medieval tapestry weaving. In the 17th Century, its workshops were given ‘Royal Appointment’ status, commissioned to produce elaborate carpets for the French Court, well-known for their tight weaves and lustrous wool. These pieces were especially popular during the 19th Century, as a staple of French Empire style design.
A this fine vintage Aubusson carpet represents a modern reimaginging of the sought after examples of the early 19th Century, featuring a soft honey coloured ground, with scrolling floral designs in shades of caramel and rose in the centre and spandrels, nicely framed by a decorative maroon border of good proportions.
This is a wonderfuly elegant piece, in excellent condition.
A timeless design classic, to furnish a stylish interior.
