Ziegler Sultanabad carpets were originally commissioned in Persia for the Western market during the 19th Century, to complement Western furnishing tastes, quickly becoming popular across the UK and Europe, thanks to their unique, grand scale drawings and understated colours. They continue to be highly sought-after additions to modern homes today, thanks to their ability to unite both classic and contemporary elements in a room.

This vintage example, finely handwoven in Azerbaijan, borrows the classic designs of these prized 19th Century Ziegler carpets, with grand scale scrolling motifs executed in fresh vegetable dyed tones of muted saffron, ochre red and celadon green, set against a light ivory ground, lending a feeling of space and openness to the work. The central composition in framed by a wide, decorative border.

Retained in very good condition for everyday use, with a subtle age-related patina to its colours.
