Ziegler Sultanabad carpets were originally commissioned in Persia for the Western market during the late 19th Century, to complement European furnishing tastes. Their unique, grand scale drawing, quiet formality, and understated colours made them sought-after additions in stately homes across the UK and Europe. 

This example represents a late 20th Century reinterpretation of the high-end Ziegler carpets of this period. Woven with a short pile in lustrous wool, featuring a sophisticated palette of gracefully aged vegetable-dyed wool, the terracotta-salmon of the central field tastefully accented by repeating floral motifs in shades of gold, sage green, and ivory, bordered by a frame of great proportions. This vintage work has developed a pleasant age-related patina, adding further charm to the piece along with the balanced, open composition of the overall drawing.

This carpet has been maintained in excellent condition for everyday use.
